At Otakon 2016, we had one of Nerd Caliber’s popular interviewers Lauren Grant talk to popular cosplayer Yaya Han about the details of her Scarlet Witch cosplay, what Pokemon team she is in and why she feels Pokemon Go is bringing people together.
This was Otakon’s final convention in Baltimore before moving to Washington, DC., next year, and going forward.
The fact that this will the last year at its current venue may have helped Otakon recover a bit from the downturn in attendance in experienced in 2015, after the pre-registration snafu of 2014 had left some too angry to return. According to Alyce Wilson, who handles press for the convention management organization Otakorp, “Otakon’s unofficial at-door number in 2016 was 29,000 memberships, which is up slightly from last year’s number of 26,877.”
